Welcome
to CTS Transcription Services. How Much Will I Make As A Transcriptionist? When you work for online transcription companies over the Internet, they will already have their set amounts that they pay, which can vary greatly so be sure to check around. Even if you get on with a company, always be researching to see if there are others out there that pay better that might be hiring. I find that with my typing speed (around 75-80 wpm) and the various rates they pay, I usually average approximately $12 to $20 per hour with them. Since I work for both online transcription companies as an independent contractor and for local clients, my income varies. The transcription I do for the accountants is in the Midwest and I charge $20 per hour (which is about $0.33 per minute). I believe this rate is very reasonable; however, I am able to charge it this way because the two accountants I work for trust my timekeeping. If you are going to do local transcription, try to give your prospective clients an estimate of how long it takes you to transcribe, for example, 20 minutes of audio takes approximately one hour of typing time, or whatever the case may be. This will help put their mind at ease and give them some kind of idea how much they will be spending. If you choose to do medical or legal transcription you will be able to charge more for your expertise in your field. Research what others in your field are charging and adjust according to you experience. Also keep in mind the many benefits other than money that you receive when choosing this type of work!
